First tiger cub named...
Rare Amur tiger cubs' names announced...
Two rare and critically endangered Amur tiger cubs, recently born at Woburn Safari Park, have been named thanks to two separate competitions asking the public to send in their suggestions.
Amur tigers originate from Siberia in Russia, so Russian names were asked for. Local radio station Heart Four Counties FM launched their own search for one of the cubs to be named and here at Woburn Safari Park, over 1,700 people sent in their favourite Russian names.
We're pleased to announce that the winner of the Heart Four Counties FM competition was Christine Ibbeson, who's suggestion MILASHKI was chosen as the name for one of the cubs. Milashki in Russian means 'cutie' which we think is very apt indeed for this adorable little face!
Milashki can be distinguished from her sibling by the markings above her eyes, which when she was born, her keepers noted looked like love hearts. It was then a no-brainer for Heart FM listeners to choose this particular cub's name!
Don't go far... we'll be announcing the second cubs' name very soon!
