Mtubatuba the Southern white rhino passes away
It is with great sadness that the keeper team announce the death of much-loved Southern white rhino female, Mtubatuba.
Mtubatuba had been at Woburn Safari Park since August 2009 and she lived alongside females Mkuzi and Mirijam, as well as male Kai, in the Savannah Grasslands reserve of the Road Safari.
Head of Reserves, Sonia Freeman, said: “Mtubatuba, fondly known as Tubbs to the team, was a very lovely and gentle natured female despite her size. She would be often seen in the Savannah Grasslands reserve following the other two females around. She was curious about things going on in the section but if something changed she would run away from it.
"Tubbs loved nothing more than have a good old wallow in the mud with the other two females, followed by a good run around. Tubbs was a great character and kept the team on their toes. Her passing has left a big gap in the park and she will be dearly missed by the team.”
