Common pipistrelle bats found roosting in the Foot Safari
Woburn Safari Park has successfully identified seven species of bats within the Park, with one of the smallest being the common pipistrelle. This native bat has taken to roost in the toilet block in Animal Encounters within the Foot Safari.
The UK is lucky enough to have 18 species of bat, some of which are also known to be breeding. Common pipistrelles and soprano pipistrelles are two very similar species as well as being the most common and widespread in all of Britain.
Following years of dramatic decline in numbers due to modern agricultural practices, pipistrelles are now showing signs of recovery and Woburn Safari Park is delighted to become home to these wonderful mammals.
Don’t worry, these nocturnal animals are up high in the rafters fast asleep and won’t disturb you during your visit!
