Bob the Ranger: A look back at 2015
What a year...
Bob the Ranger looks back on 2015 and tells us what his most memorable moments have been and what he looks forward to in the year ahead.
"I think it's fair to say that after the amazing 2014 we had at Woburn Safari Park - with the birth of Asian elephant Tarli and the lion cubs amongst many other magical moments - that everyone at the park wasn't sure if 2015 could come close.
"Well, we couldn't have been more wrong! When asked what my most memorable moment was from 2015, I struggled to pinpoint just one. I think many people's highlight was the birth of the Amur tiger cubs in September to mum, Minerva and dad Elton.
"It's the first tiger cubs for the park in over 20 years and what's more, it was a fantastic achievement for our captive breeding programme. I just can't wait for the new year when we'll see the youngsters out in their enclosure, exploring and causing mischief between themselves!
"Some favourite moments for me last summer were definitely when I was out and about with the elephants on our Elephant Encounter experiences. We take guests out into the woodland of the Woburn Estate for a walk with the females; Damini, Chandrika and Yu Zin and youngster Tarli.
"I love seeing how totally awestruck people are when they meet the eles close up and see them in this natural environment. It's a very humbling experience and I get to meet so many wonderful people who want to learn about them and appreciate how important it is to help protect these animals in the wild. I consider to be one of the biggest perks of my job - so I'm already looking forward to organising the Elephant Encounters next year.
"There were lots of new arrivals in 2015 and we welcomed baby giraffe, wildebeest, monkeys, lemurs and penguin chicks - all of which help towards the protection of their species and the future captive breeding programmes.
"Finally, I'd like to say - from me and all of the team here at Woburn Safari Park - we would like to thank you all for visiting us this year and supporting our fantastic charity events that have taken place over the last year.
Together, over £45,000 has been raised for charities including the International Elephant Foundation, Amur Tiger and Leopard Alliance, The Giraffe Conservation Fund, The Punta San Juan Penguin Sanctuary and Save The Rhino International.
"Happy new year and we look forward to seeing you in 2016!"
